My musical theater experiences helped me develop a theory I called “Finale Energy” that I incorporated into my singing workshops. I noticed that no matter how I was feeling, no matter what was going on in my life, when it was time for an all-out upbeat production number, the song and dance had to go on! And you couldn’t fake “cheerful and enthusiastic.” It had to be total, one hundred percent energetic and real if the performance was to succeed and inspire. No matter what my mood before a show, the performance would demand I turn on this authentically positive life force and I would inevitably leave the theater in a radically different mind state. It showed me that we have the innate ability to turn on “finale energy” anytime, and it is a transformational choice.
